Black Butler is a heavy series, and there's no shortage of trauma to go around- and Ciel has survived some of the worst of it. I won't go into detail about what was done to him, but it will be mentioned, as will its affect on him. Please be mindful about your headspace as you read.

Explain which event in canon is most pivotal to your character's development, and who they are today.

Four years ago, on his birthday, Ciel's family and staff were all slaughtered, and Ciel and his brother were kidnapped and trafficked to a cult. For a month they were branded, and repeatedly gang raped and drugged as part of a ritual to 'defile their souls', so that one could be suitably used as a sacrifice to summon a demon.

Now, it should be mentioned that "Ciel" is not, in fact, Ciel. It was his brother who was taken as the sacrifice, and subsequently killed. A demon was indeed summoned, but with our twin cursing God's name for the loss of his brother and all their suffering, the demon wound up seeing him as the "master" of the contract the cultists sought.

So this event sparked three key changed on our twin's life. The first being he took his brother's identity. Being the younger twin and a "sickly spare" he decided it would be better if he was the one to die that day, and "Ciel" could live on. The second being the contract he struck with Sebastian, the demon that was summoned. Ciel, being merely ten at the time, would have otherwise had no way to accomplish much of anything. Much less to find and thwart those that his own father couldn't outsmart. The third was a drastic change in personality. Prior to all of this, the boy that would later take his brother's name was a notoriously shy and sickly boy. He was gullible and trusting, and often overheard others speaking how he was unfit to even be a spare given his weak constitution and timid nature. After becoming Ciel, he's grown bold, but closed off, he trusts no one save for the demon that was bound by their contract.

What is your character most afraid of?

Being powerless is his greatest fear, due to the events mentioned in the above question. His mother and father were powerless to stop their deaths, his brother was powerless to save himself, and "Ciel" was powerless to stop any of this from happening. When Sebastian first asked him what he wished for, he answered one thing: Power.

What is justice to your character? How important is it to them?

Ciel doesn't believe in proper "justice", his family does, in fact, work outside the confines of the law in most cases to manage the activities of the underground crime syndicates and whatnot. To him you are either used, or you are the one using others, and that the world is an unfair and unkind place. Justice is a farce, but revenge? Retribution? Those are things he craves- enough that he'd sell his soul to a demon.

What would it take to truly upset your character, enough that they would act upon their feelings? Are they the sort to forgive?

Upsetting Ciel is not very difficult to accomplish if you know his past. As much as he tries to close himself off from his "weakness", the events from his birthday left deep scars. In moments when he's either faced with similarities to that incident, whether it's a recreation of the environment, being caged or seeing other children caged, and feeling trapped or powerless can bring all those memories to the forefront of his mind and send him spiraling in a panic attack. It usually involves him freezing, vomiting, and/or acting impulsively.

Given that whenever this happens, the one ultimately responsible usually dies... No, he does not forgive.

Inventory:
1. Ye Olde Pistol- a fossil from the late 1800s. Kinda. Technically early 1900s for style points, but regardless it doesn't have much of a kick to it.
2. Bitter rabbit- a stuffed animal that's the mascot of his toy company.
3. Cane- he doesn't have trouble walking or anything like that. It's a status thing. Also he can comically hit people with it.
4. Nightshirt- just an oversized button down. It's cute and I just want him to have it.

Powers/Abilities: Powers: He can boss around one demon in particular, thanks to the contract engraved on his eye. With said demon not with him in game, all it does is hinder his depth perception. But it looks cool! The Power of Style Points.

Probably doesn't count as a power, but he survived infanthood in Victorian England where clothes are dyed with arsenic, hats are made with mercury, everything has lead, and asbestos was a favorite for insulation. He's got the resilience of a cockroach to have made it this far.

Abilities:
Great at chess: Plays a mean game of chess. He needed to have one useful quality and the dice rolled on intelligence. And nothing else.
Horseback riding: He can ride a horse. This is far less impressive than it sounds considering they're still the main mode of transportation in his time.
Hunting: He's a good shot with a rifle, and presumably a pistol (or as good as one can be when your pistol is a metal brick from the late 1800s).

That's literally it. He's otherwise just a spoiled noodly 14 year old who can barely tie his own shoes.

Goals: I want to see how he handles being pulled from the comfort of the world he knew- without Sebastian for protection. Drag him out of his comfort zone and force him to properly make connections with others. Bonus for making him miserable but turning him into a monster similar to his undead brother.
